Osseo Composite Mountain Bike rider Wyatt Miller is this week's #featurefriday Athlete on www.prenzlowphotography.com.
Wyatt has been racing with the CPOMG Mountain Bike Team since he was in seventh grade. As his coach, I have so impressed with his progress in the sport. He has worked hard to move his way up to competing at the varsity level in the MN National Interscholastic Cycling Association. He also races during the summer in the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series. Here is a little more about Wyatt.
• Grade in School: Junior in High School
• What is your favorite class/subject in school? Engineering
• What is your best memory of participating in this sport/activity?
Racing around the state against different teams and/or individuals on many different courses.
• What foods or drinks help you gear up and stay energized for the event?
Electrolyte tablets in my water bottle, Clif bars, and Clif shot bloks.
• Besides sports, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Work on anything mechanical (i.e. airplanes, boats, cars, bikes)
• Do you have any sports heroes? If so, who and what do you like about him or her?
Nino Shurter and Kate Courtney. The amount of training and riding that Nino and Kate endure for a typical race season is unbelievable to me. I enjoy watching clips from races to watch how they pace themselves, make passes to other riders, and ride technical terrain in hopes of finishing on the podium.
“During races I always tend to excel during climbs, but lack in flat sections. While racing I always look for climbs where I can increase distance on racers behind me, and decrease the distance between myself and the racers in front of me. This year in particular, with races being a time trial format, has been a very different experience because I can't place myself to other riders. I am happy we were able to race this year, however, I hope that next year racing will return to the normal mass start format where I can race directly against fellow racers, not against the clock.”
Good Luck to Wyatt and the rest of the CPOMG Team at the Buck Hill Race in Burnsville this Saturday!
